Let’s make the world a better place.
If you could change any one thing in the world what would you change? You can get rid of something (like CVTs), change something (make hybrids fun), or give something new to the world (hoverboards). Anything is an option, just detail your change and try to explain why and what you think the outcome would be.
I’d give everyone on earth a garage with a pretty decent tool set to start with. My hope is everyone had room to store an extra car and the tools to work on it we’d all be able to have a fun car and more people could enjoy driving again. Right now a lot of people just see driving as a hassle that needs to be done away with. I think it’s because a lot of people don’t have the time or money to appreciate driving for fun. I think if people did enjoy driving again they’d find time for good clear thinking that you and I know from the back roads and we’d see more solutions and less complaining.
So that’s my change, what’s yours?

I would instill very strict laws preventing former high level military or government officials from becoming board members or directors in corporations that typically “server” the US government. Thereby preventing the incestuous industry backbone that we have today between the lobbyists and pocketed politicians in DC.

I like your idea more than my own BTW.

Assuming we’re going to stay car related. Boom, fossil fuels are now renewable and environmentally friendly source of energy. Yours is good too.

I’d make driving tests strict. Very, very strict.

I strongly considered taking away the little bit of enviromental unfriendliness that ICE’s still have but I think if we turn the whole world into Jalops that problem will sort itself out.

No fucking way man, I literally just watched Senna 2010 on YT! Good question, liked your answer! My dream is to make cost price cars with plastic engines , gears , and wheels at the very least. That way the massive weight savings means smaller engines can be used, smaller components etc making performance much more accessible and also being a TRUE efficient vehicle. Not adding weight and complexity a-la hybrids to recuperate losses. The cars need to be sold at max 5% profit, ideally at cost price. Initial costs will be very high for tooling etc but by taking on these high costs initially (eg tooling that is easily adaptable for new car models and even other products) in the long run no one will be able to make cars that cheap with the same build quality. Must be cost price because it is about fucking time someone did this but still not yet. The reverence for cheap, efficient performers, I want the poorest of potential drivers to experience. Investors and open minded people will be required but the benefits in the long run, even if the money is never made back, would be worldwide! Other manufacturers would be forced to drop prices, and use more composites which somewhere in the comments of my article is a link for stating won’t really be till 2020. Torlon in particular has been sitting around tried and tested over 30 years ago and every day I think about this and it drives me insane. I am obsessed with this idea but so so far away and it’s all I can do to tell myself it will happen

I like your enthusiasm and I definitely get your intentions but I don’t think this kind of process works in the real world. If you look at Ladas and the Tata Nano these kind of cars just never took off. If I were going to talk about what kind of car I’d make to change the world I’d launch a small, light, cheap 2+2. I’d put a turbo 1.0 three cylinder engine from any of the numerous manufacturers offering it. It would be manual only with very limited equipment. From the factory it would be safe, efficient, basic transportation and it would be designed to easily be modified for racing purposes. I’d try to sell it for $16k which is pretty cheap by new car standards and damn cheap for anything with any sporting intentions. Basically I want a modern 142.

I’ll look up the 142 but from what you’ve explained is very much in the vein of what I want to do, except I am thinking of a modular chassis that can be adapted for different models so many models can be developed alongside meaning less total cost. That sort of engine is EXACTLY what I will be looking for, to blueprint in torlon. I was hoping to sell for cheaper than Dacia atleast... and omg the Tata Nano, omg it makes me so ANGRY, that a car was exactly what the poor potential drivers of India needed but was shunned for not hiding its purpose and rightfully, proudly described itself as the cheapest. Lada didn’t take off mainly because of poor build quality, though even if it were reliable it needs to have varied options for those looking to spend extra for comforts like power assists and electronics - the creature comforts!

Are we staying car related? Because my list of actual important things to change for the good of humanity & the Earth is a mile long, and cars are not on it. If it’s car related, I’d make everyone learn to drive in an old carbureted, manual car with no power brakes so they better understand the forces at work when operating an automobile.

It doesn’t have to be car related but you only get one change so you have to pick the one with the most impact.

Reverse fuel efficiency: the more cylinders/liters the better the gas mileage.

Hmmm.... I don’t know how I feel about this. Can you elaborate on why you want this change?

I’d make high power-dense, low-cost batteries a thing.

Because the world would be a better place v12s and 7 liter v8s were more common?

Restructure the highway system with progressive speed limits based on what lane you are driving in and what type of license you have. There are drivers of the world that are capable of/enjoy driving at much faster speeds, and as long as you meet the qualifications, you should be able to do so.
